oh, to return to 2009
where, late at night
beneath the sheets,
I'd dissolve,
to gaze upon a tiny screen,
a moonlit window.
where riches chimed as golden bells,
for an apple-shaped TV.
I'd drift through pixel-specked
celestial nights,
fishing—to sell, or proudly show to…
with ancient fossils, museum-given.
bottled whispers, sea-combed
from the silent sand,
letters from false hearts I'd never hold.
dreaming of a stranger's kind word,
but, the only girl
in a world of wild animals,
cute though they were,
felt often alone.
then, to the gate, a distant call,
to connect with the world...
only to find no friends again.

Nothing is more nostalgic to me than this game. I felt inspired to write this poem whilst listening to the soundtrack on youtube.
I would suggest you go and listen before, during, or after reading this poem, It’s very relaxing. The main inspiration, however, came from the heart-warming comments under each track. people have such beautiful memories of this game :)
Here are a few of my favourites:
I like song but the guitar reminds me of how lonely it was. The late songs do. Late night, can’t sleep, shops closed, villagers are asleep, mosquitoes and tarantulas are your only friend

Young me, I’m up on my ds playing animal crossing wild world all night. Everyone’s asleep it’s so peaceful just you and your happy little game. No care in the world. I miss that feeling.
