Hi everyone,
Before you dive into today's poem, I wanted to quickly apologize for missing Wednesday's post. It's been a chaotic week, as one of my family members has been unwell. I wasn't quite sure what to write that felt appropriate given everything, but I've been so incredibly warmed by the support from all my friends. This poem is a little ode to one of them, my dear friend Julia.

In winter’s hush, wrapped in leather, before I see, your jewelry's soft chime. Eyes, silver-lined, like starlight, frost-kissed. Then, sleepy lavender. In spring’s gentle bloom, your hair now long, a midnight river flows. A flower ring, records softly spin. your skin, moon-pale, finest porcelain. "To our bar," you say, always a pint. In summer’s warmth, pretty blouses, soft as rose petals. Lacy trim, a blush of spotted pink. Your giggle, soft secrets in my ear. Late-night, happy stumble, Under a shower of pearls. Surely, Sappho wrote of you. Her words, echo your light: ‘stars around the beautiful moon hide back their luminous form whenever all full she shines on the earth silvery’ And like those stars, I wish to dissolve safe, into your glow. My peridot, a silver shell, Moonlit rockpool. Lost without my lantern.
I hope this little piece offered a moment of warmth or reflection for you. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the poem, or perhaps if it brought to mind someone special in your own life. Feel free to share in the comments.
Oh! and the Sappho lines you can find in If Not, Winter: Fragments of Sappho.
See you soon,
Jas

I envy Julia for the lovely words you've dedicated to her! That's real friendship!
Beautiful poem, Jas! You're right, you definitely should write more poems about your friends:)
Oh this is so beautiful I’m lost for words, just stumbled across it while scrolling sat on this bus and all of a sudden the sun on my arm feels like a hug from my best friend.
