look twice before you choose, my friend, to decree her a icon her hair, a midnight curtain; sculpted bones with moon-kissed skin, and lips like candied fruit —her word, your bible. what sacred gift does she hold? her clothes dazzle white, her head unburdened by tangled thoughts or ends, and the way she moves…like stardust. she's kind, I admit, with a bright-eyed calm, even invites me to her sacred circle. but I can't approach that hallowed altar— my darkened stoop, far below her divine cloud. you pray to her, always, from my sinner’s pit, I witness, while I, still unseen, am flung like cracked china. I may be fragile, but I'm intricate, perhaps you should rethink your religion.
I hope you enjoyed reading 'gut your icon'! This poem explores the complex dance between admiration and disillusionment, the way we sometimes elevate others to impossible heights, only to find ourselves feeling diminished in their shadow. It's about the quiet struggle of the unseen, and the courage it takes to question what/who everyone else worships. A celebrity, a trend , a brand...

Super cool piece.. I love the meaning behind it and the incredible way you have expressed it 😌
Oh wow, this is such a beautiful & evocative piece, Jas!! You have truly captured that blind adoration that can overcome all of us when faced with the ‘newest idol.’ & the imagery you have conjured up is so strong & vivid.
Incredibly poignant & powerful piece!🙌💖✨
(P.s I also can’t stop thinking about your Animal Crossing poem, it made my heart very, very happy!!🥹💜✨)
