This poem is addressed to the transphobes, what are you truly afraid of?
To be female, is a heavy weight we bear, To forge that path - an unknown strength beyond compare. Brave cis women, your struggle is known, But to leave our trans sisters to stand on their own? We know the fear, the constant male-gaze, Why lock the door when we're in the same maze? Piss off JK, cis women are not less, It’s the people in power that breed this mess- Governments spreading lies, a hateful decree, Painting trans lives as something evil to she. No bathroom terror in a trans girl's glance, Only a brave soul looking, taking its chance. A smile of kinship, I can offer in return Your respect is one she shouldn’t need to earn. But the night's footfall, a story ages old, A presence felt, a common fear takes it's hold. A male shadow looming, the true source of fright. "Men will pretend," the bigots all recite. Then tell me, truly, what fuels this bitter flame? Is it the few you slander and demean, Or is it cis men, the threat that's always seen?
In light of the UK Supreme Court's decision, solidarity and support for our trans sisters is more vital than ever. Your voice is important. Speak up.
